Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, there is little or no pain felt on the insertion of the acupuncture needle. Certain points may be stimulated by moving the needle in order to achieve a sensation such as a dull ache or fizz, this is called Qi.

What type of needles are used?

The needles are disposable sterile needles, so they are used once and then disposed of safely

Does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is based on the principle of harmonizing the bodies own energy 'Qi' and rebalancing 'yin and yang'. Acupuncture relieves pain and has a relaxing effect which helps the bodies own healing system to work effectively.

Can I have acupuncture if I am taking warfarin?

Yes, as long as your INR is stable and you bring your record card to the clinic with you.

How long will the treatment last?

The first consultation and treatment will last up to 90 minutes and follow up appointments around 45 mins. Needles will be retained (left in) for 20 - 30 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

Patients may feel drowsy after the treatment. Occasionally there may be minor bruising at the needle sight and there could be a flare up of symptoms which is usually a good sign as there has been energy moved throughout the treatment and the 'Qi' needs to clear and resettle.
